So I have no reason why I haven't posted the last few days, but here is a to make up for it... kinda.
This is my submission for the "Crimson Daggers" challenge of creating a 'Swamp Elder' in an environment. The deadline for the challenge is the 30th, but I wanted to relax from here till christmas :)
Here are the studies relevant to the illustration.
And here are the initial sketches:
And finally, some still life studies I did today in Pencil:
Anyhow, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year as well (in case I don't post) :D

SOTD #11
Studying a bit shiny metal didn't turn out too bad. I'm starting understand how to study way better, so I'm all smiles.
At the moment I'm doing loads of thumbnail studies trying to figure out composition etc.
At the moment there is a sale at TAD and there is a fantastic 3 hour lecture on composition that I would definately recommend. Even if you don't draw much but just appreciate art, it's still a good watch :)

Dragon Concept
So I've been using a lot of energy on learning how to make dragons in the last week or so, finally have a result that is somewhat satisfactory. It's still in a sketch stage, but at least I can see this one turning out cool with some more work. It turned a little bit too much into a gryphon, but it's not too bad.
You can watch my progress (minus the last bit of renering):

Value sketch of a Volcano erruption. I did this because I found out that smoke is really difficult to paint (for me at least), and well, the harder something is, the more you gain from doing it. This one turned out pretty bad, but I felt I learnt a lot which is more important than how the study turned out :)

Value study trying to create depth and contrast never use fully black or fully white. The Darkest value is 20% and the lightest is 80%. It's actually pretty fun, because you start having to think a little more about how to make your contrast work :)

Scarlett Johansson Portrait Study
Longer study, ended up taking too much of my time, so I stopped here so I can go back to doing shorter studies :) I always end up hating the longer studies, whenever I get to a certain point I start seeing all the mistakes. I'm just happy that I can see improvement.

Anyway, any form of criticism, bashing or praise is welcomed :)
